2017 is a good vintage for white Burgundy, a very good vintage for Chablis, and an excellent vintage for Moreau-Naudet, despite another bout of frost. Stéphane Moreau’s vision is continued on by his assistant winemaker and wife, producing lifted, Dauvissat-style wines amongst the new generation of Chablis producers. Extensive sur-lie aging and healthy fruit create vivacious wines, full of saline-tinged harmony. The 2017 Chablis shows a distinct sense of place, giving way to flavors of stone fruit, minerals, and chalk, with salty minerality and citrus-driven acidity.
This is delicious now hitting all the right Chablis notes and should make for sensational drinking over the next 5-7 years. Pair this lively white with raw oysters, fluke meunière, or a perhaps a goat cheese tart.
