In Catalan, Escanya-Vella means, “the old lady strangler”. The etymology is believed to be an allusion to it being a strong-bodied grape with a thicker skin than usual. So, in the old days producing such a “coarse” wine from such grapes could kill your mother-in-law.
The Gratallops Escanya-Vella is 50% fermented in vat at low temperatures and 50% fermented in new french oak barrels for 7 months on the lees. Notes of ripe fruit, white flowers, aromatic herbs, citric and mineral. Mouth filling, crisp acidity, length and freshness.
